There are three main varieties of the Frisian language: West Frisian (Frysk) which is the language of Friesland/Fryslan (Netherlands, where it is spoken by around 400,000 people); North Frisian (Friisk) which consists of nine different dialects in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany), and includes the German Frisian islands - around 8,000 speakers; and Sater Frisian (Seeltersk) which is spoken in Niedersachsen (Germany) - by maybe 1,500 inhabitants. The majority of the Frisians in this area speak Low German or Saxon.

Check out The Frisian Meeting Forum for discussion about and in the Fries language.
